The Nalo Baru iron ore concession is located in the District of Nalo Tantan, Province of Jambi, Indonesia. It is situated approximately 38 kilometres west of the city of Bangko, the capital city of the Merangin Regency.

The iron mineralization in the concession area is contained throughout the Permian aged Palepat Formation. The Palepat Formation is composed of andesites, dacites and dolerites, with intercalations of tuff, volcanic breccia, shale, siltstone, sandstone, claystone, and conglomerate. The sedimentary rocks are slightly altered (thermally) by the tantan granite, a triassic granitic intrusion near the concession area.

The presence of iron deposits in the palepat formation has been hypothesized to be the result of a contact metamorphism between the lithic tuff and the granitic intrusion.

Exploration and Production

Production at the Nalo Baru site commenced in May 2009 with a initial production target of 3,000,000 (3 million) tonnes per annum. Extensive activities have been carried out on this green field project resulting in land clearing, construction of relevant infrastructure and site facilities. More than $10 million USD has been spent on camp construction and relevant equipment; with a drastic 8-fold increase in the number of personnel on-site. The company is currently supplying iron from this mine concession to various Asian markets.
